2006 TennisReporters.net readers' poll

Top-ranked Roger Federer and Justine Henin were landslide winners in the 2007 TennisReporters.net third annual readers' poll. Federer, who won three Grand Slam titles in 2007, took just over 90 percent of the vote, overwhelming Novak Djokovic (5 percent). No. 2 Rafael Nadal (2.9 percent) dropped notably from his 2006 vote tally. Countryman David Ferrer polled 1.4 percent.

Henin, who was undefeated post Wimbledon, was an even bigger winner, grabbing 92.9 percent of the vote compared to 2.1 percent from Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Ana Ivanovic. No. 2 Svetlana Kuznetsova didn't receive a vote.

American John Isner won the male Newcomer of the Year vote with 53.6 percent, beating out Latvian Ernests Gulbis (35.7 percent) in an strangely weak year for male rookies.

Hungarian teenager Agnes Szavay, the winner of two 2007 titles, was the female Newcomer of the Year, winning 60 percent of the vote over Victoria Azarenka, Tamira Paszek and Agnieszka Radwanska.

Djokovic, who ended the year ranked No. 3, was named the men's Most Improved Player with 72.9 percent, overcoming Ferrer, who tallied 24.3 percent. Ivanovic, who ended the year ranked No. 4, was named the women's Most Improved Player with 58.6 percent and was followed by Anna Chakvetadze at 26.4 percent.

Venus Williams, who won her fourth Wimbledon title in 2007, was named women's Veteran of the Year, with 60.7 percent. Daniela Hantuchova, who won two titles in 2007 and registered 20.7 percent, followed her. David Nalbandian' late fall push earned him Veteran of the Year honors with 68.6 percent. The resurgent German, Tommy Haas, tallied 24.3 percent.

The men's Match of the Year was the spellbinding, five-set Federer v. Nadal Wimbledon final at 81.4 percent. The women's match was the year's last: the marathon Sony Ericsson WTA Championships final between Henin and Maria Sharapova at 67.9 percent.

Readers weighed in a new category, "Bust of the Year," choosing Lleyton Hewitt as the men's flameout (70 percent) and Amelie Mauresmo (70 percent) at the women's.

Not surprisingly, readers again chose the Serbian Ivanovic and Russia's Marat Safin as the Sexist Players of the Year, both by a larger margin than in last year's poll. Ivanovic and Safin also won in 2005. Safin, who received 24.3 percent of the votes in a field of 10 men, beat out Spain's Feliciano Lopez (16.4 percent) and James Blake (14.3 percent). Ivanovic put up very hot numbers by winning 39.3 percent of the vote, besting glamour girl Maria Sharapova (15 percent) and Maria Kirilenko (12.9 percent) in a field of 10 women.
