'It's a mood thing:' Chakvetadze wins BOW titleHoffman watches students Mirza, Chakvetadze clash;Rising Anna C. on America: 'I love grapes in the US, and oranges and pineapples, but our strawberries in Russia are better than yours' By Matthew Cronin, TennisReporters.net FROM THE BANK OF THE WEST CLASSIC AT STANFORD – Rainer Hoffman was in the catbird's seat. He tutored Anna Chakvetadze through the end of Roland Garros and spent much of the week of the Bank of the West Classic week giving practice session advice to Sania Mirza. On Sunday, Patty Schynder's coach and husband sat court side watching two players he's had an effect on slug it out. But there was a little he could do for his new student, as Mirza was mentally and physically fried after a long week of singles and doubles and had no chance to keep up with the gliding Russian, who won her sixth career crown and 10th match on US soil in the past two-and-a-half weeks. © TennisReporters.net 2007 |
