FROM THE ACURA CLASSIC IN SAN DIEGO – After
knocking out Patty Schnyder 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 in the final of the Acura Classic
on Sunday, Maria Sharapova was willing to brave the horrid Sunday afternoon
traffic and head to In-N-Out Burger, her favorite greasy spoon.
Why that fast-food destination? "The burgers
- duh," the Manhattan Beach resident said in perfect SoCal parlance.
Sharapova is looking to repeat her summer 2006
pattern and already is off a fine start. She played super-sized yellowball
in this, the last year of the Acura Classic, beating back a slew of good
players – Tatiana Golovin, Sania Mirza, Anna Chakvetadze and Schnyder – en
route to defending her title.
