Columbus,
Ohio and Oklahoma City have stepped up their bids at the last
minute to host the U.S.'s February Davis Cup tie against Slovakia,
tennisreporters.net
has learned. The
Naples Tennis & Bath resort is the other lead contender and
appears to be the only Florida site still in the running.
Columbus
apparently has two sites where the Cup could be played the
former basketball arena for the Ohio State Buckeyes and a local
club.
Oklahoma
City would play the tie at Oklahoma City University, which used
to
host the WTA event that was just sold to Memphis.
Before
Pete Sampras committed to the team, U.S. Captain Patrick McEnroe
said he wanted to play the tie on outdoor hard courts, but, given
Sampras'
excellent record indoors, he's now willing to consider hosting
the tie inside
an arena or club.
