Unlike last time, Dementieva was able to wear Oudin down. “I got a little tired at end and my cold catching up with me, but I thought it was good tennis from both of us,” Oudin said. Dementieva added "That was probably the most difficult win of the year for me so far. I didn't know what to expect from her then and she played very well, very inspired by the crowd."
Safarova scored one of her biggest wins in the last year, upending Flavia Pennetta 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. "I don't really need to say anything about Elena because everyone knows how good she is,” Safarova said. I'll just enjoy myself in the final, try to play my best tennis and try to win.”
The 32-year-old Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand will meet Vera Zvonareva in the Pattaya City final. Tanasugarn needed just an hour and 15 minutes to beat Sesil Karatantcheva 6-2, 6-0, while the Russian and top seed took a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over fourth seed Yaroslava Shvedova. She’ll play top seed Elena Dementieva, who overcame young German Andrea Petkovic 3-6 6-4 6-2. Recall that Oudin toppled Dementieva last year in New York. "A perfect match does not exist but this was my best match of the year so far, though I still have things to improve," Soderling said.
